Ambrozino Storr, is the President of Eating Recovery Center of California. Storr has extensive experience in behavioral healthcare in addition to over 12 years of delivering psychiatric patient care for adults, adolescents and children in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Prior to joining Eating Recovery Center of California, he served as Chief Executive Officer for three Acadia Healthcare behavioral hospitals, including Pacific Grove Hospital in Riverside, CA, Seven Hills Behavioral Health in Henderson, NV and Options Behavioral Health Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Before moving into behavioral healthcare administration, Storr was a clinician providing direct patient care to adults, adolescents and geriatrics in Illinois.
Previous to him moving into the behavioral health field, he served for nine years as a financial counselor for JPMorgan Chase & Co. Storr earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the National-Louis University in Chicago and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Addiction Counseling and Healthcare Administration from Grand Canyon University.
Lisa Petersen, PhD, CEDS, has been working in the field of eating disorders for more than 15 years. She joined the Eating Recovery Center of California team in 2005, and currently serves as Clinical Director. Dr. Petersen focuses on providing high quality care for patients and families in an effort to give them hope and skills necessary for full recovery. Dr. Petersen earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Boise State University, and earned both her Master’s Degree in Community Counseling and her Doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Petersen worked at UC-Davis for 5 years and coordinated the Eating Disorder Program. Dr. Petersen feels passionate about helping patients make peace with their bodies and food, connecting them to their valued lives, and developing a level of acceptance. Dr. Petersen has spoken extensively on the topic of eating disorders both on campus and in the community, and continues to speak and educate the larger community of professionals, patients and families on topics related to eating disorders awareness and treatment.
Medical Director and Psychiatrist
Dr. Anna Vinter is the Medical Director and adult psychiatrist for Eating Recovery Center of California’s Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs. She earned her MD at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine. After medical school, she completed a Postgraduate Research Fellowship in Neurology. Her research focused on Psychogenic Nonepileptic Seizures sparked a longstanding interest in psychological conditions with physical manifestations, including eating disorders. Dr. Vinter completed her Psychiatric Residency at UC Davis Medical Center. In addition to her specialization in eating disorders, she has a strong interest in psychodynamic psychotherapy and was chosen as a 2007 American Psychoanalytic Association Fellow. She has a wide variety of practice experience including university student health, women’s substance abuse treatment, community mental health, private practice and inpatient psychiatric hospital settings. She holds a current appointment as Assistant Clinical Professor in the UC Davis Department of Psychiatry and is actively involved in psychiatric resident education and supervision. She is a Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist and a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist.
Clinical Manager, Intensive Outpatient Program
Kristine Suchan, MFT, is Clinical Manager of Eating Recovery Center’s Intensive Outpatient Program. She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 23 years of experience in eating disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, family work and individual treatment. Kristine’s comprehensive approach integrates working towards a balanced healthy lifestyle by helping her patients identify their valued life goals. She is passionate about supporting her patients through their life struggles and believes strongly in the connection of humans to their natural world.
Clinical Manager, Eating Recovery Center of California - Bay Area
Karen Schneller, MFT, CEDS, is the Clinical Manger for Eating Recovery Center of California – Bay Area. Karen completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Sonoma State University and received her Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology at Meridian University. Karen began her career in the behavioral healthcare field at ValueOptions, a national behavioral healthcare insurance company. During this time Karen gained a deep understanding of inner workings of the behavioral healthcare insurance markets. As an Account Executive for over eight years, she has built a foundation of understanding in business and management to lead in the strategic marketing of treatment programs and importance of customer relationships.
Karen Schneller has been licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist since 2010. She has experience working in residential treatment centers, intensive outpatient programs, schools and private practice settings. Her most recent position was at a large Substance Abuse treatment center where as the Program Director, she lead a team building a co-occurring eating disorder and substance abuse program. She received intensive training in the treatment of eating disorders and their co-morbid pathologies over the course of her training and pursued certification as an Eating Disorder Specialist through the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp) in 2013. Karen also served on the Board as the Marketing Chair for the Orange County, Ca Chapter of iaedp.
One of Karen’s passions is eating disorder education and early prevention. As a way to give back to the community, Karen has offered a free eating disorder support group since 2008 in Southern California. She has also done many guest speaking opportunities at schools and non-profit organizations. Karen believes in compassionate and customized treatment with an emphasis on meeting the unique needs of each client. While working in treatment programs over the last 10 years, she has seen first-hand the power of treatment in combating this life-threatening disease.
Clinical Manager, Fresno Outpatient Program
Susan Gravette is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who serves as the Clinical Manager for the Fresno Outpatient Program. Susan has over nine years of experience working in the field of eating disorder treatment in the outpatient, intensive outpatient, and partial hospitalization levels of care. In addition to working with eating disorders, she has extensive training and experience working in the area of trauma, family therapy, anxiety and mood disorders, and women’s issues. Susan’s primary passion in the area of eating disorders is working with the families of those impacted by this diagnosis. She is fascinated by the complexity of eating disorders and enjoys working with a multidisciplinary team to provide the best possible outcomes for her patients. Susan earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Whitworth University in Spokane, WA and her Master’s in Marital and Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary School of Psychology in Pasadena, CA. She is also a Clinical Supervisor and enjoys training and mentoring unlicensed therapists.
Elise Kuiken, RN, has been working in the field of eating disorders since 2009 and joined Eating Recovery Center of California as Nurse Manager as a result of her dedication to helping patients who struggle with eating disorders. As Nurse Manager, she works with patients across the treatment spectrum, including the Partial Hospitalization Program and Intensive Outpatient Program. Elise assisted in developing policies and procedures to ensure continued patient safety and was an integral figure in the process of obtaining accreditation from the Joint Commission. Elise also lectures at nursing conferences and to nursing students at several local Universities on the complications associated with eating disorders and importance of early recognition.
Nutrition Services Manager
Kerri Mulligan, RD, serves as the Nutrition Services Manager for Eating Recovery Center of California’s Partial Hospitalization Program. Kerri joined the Eating Recovery Center Recovery Team in 2011 in San Antonio where she developed the nutrition curriculum for Binge Eating Disorder based on mindful and intuitive eating practices. She is passionate about supporting patients through the recovery process to normalize eating patterns, develop skills for intuitive eating, and to make peace with food.
Kerri earned her Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and of the Binge Eating Disorder Association.
Utilization Review Manager
Jesse Pitrone, MFT, is the Utilization Review Manager at Eating Recovery Center of California, and since 2000, has been working with client’s suffering from eating disorders, low self-esteem, body image disturbance issues, and trauma issues. She has worked in both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs for people struggling with eating disorders and body image issues. Jesse has taught college courses in the Human Services field.

Dr. Ken Weiner has been active in the treatment of Eating Disorders in Denver for more than 30 years. Recognized as a national expert in the treatment of Eating Disorders, he lectures extensively in the United States. He continues to be instrumental in designing and delivering state-of-the- art, high quality patient care.
Dr. Weiner created and directed Columbine Psychiatric Center Eating Disorders Program from 1988-1992, Bethesda Eating Disorder Program from 1992-1998 and Eating Disorder Center of Denver from 2002-2007. Eating Recovery Center was established October 2008 in Denver, Colorado as a joint effort with colleague Dr. Emmett Bishop.
Dr. Weiner is Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine and has received the prestigious Gold Apple Teaching Award from the medical school and the Best Teacher Award from the Psychiatric Residency Training Program (2007). He has been named a Fellow of the Academy of Eating Disorders and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and received the National Eating Disorders Award (2006) for co-founding the Eating Disorders Foundation in Colorado. A dedicated clinician and teacher, Dr. Weiner has co-authored numerous articles on eating disorders.

Dr. Craig Johnson has been a leader in the field of eating disorders for more than 30 years. He is the Chief Science Officer of Eating Recovery Center in Denver, Colorado. He is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Oklahoma Medical School and has formerly held faculty appointments at Yale, University of Chicago and Northwestern University Medical Schools. He was the Founding Editor of the International Journal of Eating Disorders and a founding member of the Academy for Eating Disorders and the Eating Disorders Research Society. He is also Past President of the National Eating Disorders Association.
Dr. Johnson has authored three books, more than 70 scientific articles and has been the recipient of several distinguished contribution awards.

Emmett Bishop, Jr., MD, FAED, F.iaedp, CEDS is the Medical Director of Outpatient Services and Program Development at Eating Recovery Center in Denver, Colorado. He has written and lectured nationally and internationally on eating disorders and their treatment. Since 1993, he has served on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals and is a past President. He is a Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders and is on the Editorial Board of Eating Disorders: Journal of Treatment and Prevention. He received the IAEDP CEDS Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.

140As Executive Medical Director, Dr. Philip Mehler is the designated head of medical services across Eating Recovery Center’s full treatment spectrum, including Inpatient, Residential, Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient and Outpatient levels of care. Prior to joining Eating Recovery Center, Dr. Mehler served as Chief Clinical Officer and Medical Director of Denver Health and Hospital Authority after being promoted from his prior position of Chief Medical Officer of Denver Health. Dr. Mehler will also continue to serve part-time as Medical Director of the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders. Dr. Mehler began his career at Denver Health nearly 30 years ago and was formerly its Chief of Internal Medicine. He is the Glassman Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and has conducted research into the treatment of the most severe eating disorder cases and the complications that can arise in Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa. Dr. Mehler has authored more than 350 publications, including a textbook, Medical Complications of Eating Disorders, which published by the Johns Hopkins University Press and is now in its second edition. Dr. Mehler was the recipient of the Academy of Eating Disorders 2012 Outstanding Clinician Award, has been recognized among the “Best Doctors in America” for the past 14 years, and was voted the “Top Internist in Denver” multiple times by 5280 magazine. Dr. Mehler is a member and fellow of the Eating Disorders Research Society and the Academy of Eating Disorders, as well as a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Eating Disorders. He has lectured extensively on a national and international level as the leading medical expert on the topic of medical complications of eating disorders.

Ovidio Bermudez, MD, is the Chief Clinical Officer and Medical Director of Child & Adolescent Services at Eating Recovery Center in Denver, Colorado. He holds academic appointments as Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is Board certified in Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine.
Dr. Bermudez is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, the Academy for Eating Disorders and the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals. He is Past Chairman and Senior Advisor on Media for the Board of Directors of the National Eating Disorders Association, Co-Founder of the Eating Disorders Coalition of Tennessee (EDCT), Co-founder of the Oklahoma Eating Disorders Association (OEDA) and a founding member of Houston Eating Disorders Specialists (HEDS). He is a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals.
